There are dozens of varieties to choose from when growing potatoes in aquaponics gardens. the different types of potatoes are classified according to the days it will take for them to mature and become ready for harvest. early season potatoes take 75 to 90 days to become ready for harvest. they are ideally grown in southern regions.. I wanted to try and see if i could grow potatoes aquaponically. i will need to use the fill & drain feature of my new aquaponic setup to make the attempt.. My idea is to grow potatoes in 3 stages in aeroponic/aquaponic systems (depending on viability): incubator for small plants ready to become cuttings; suspended aeroponic system for maximum yield of seed potatoes; suspended aeroponic system for growing the seed potatoes to mature potatoes.. 7. potatoes – like carrots, these underground growers do well in a medium or large aquaponics setup. they prefer a cool and humid climate. a potato plant or two doesn’t take up that much space. 8. squash – many varieties of squash with different flavors do well in aquaponics setups. due to the space requirements, a tabletop setup might.
